The operation of the Port Authority's Free Zones is regulated by the Jamaica Export Free Zones Act. Under the Act companies operating in the Free Zones are guaranteed the following incentives in perpetuity.

Tax Exemption

There is a 100% tax holiday on profits in perpetuity.

Customs

Companies operating in the Zones are not subject to import licensing and customs procedures have been reduced to a minimum.

Duty Free Items

All Free Zone companies are allowed to import the following items into the Free Zone free of customs, consumption and stamp duties.

  • Capital goods
  • Consumer goods
  • Raw material, components or articles for use in an approved activity.
  • Articles imported for the construction, alteration, reconstruction, extension or repair of premises in the Free Zone.
  • Articles for equipping premises including office equipment.
Repatriation of Profit

There is no restriction applicable to the repatriation of foreign currency and Free Zone companies are permitted to operate foreign currency accounts, as Jamaica operates in a free market economy with a liberalized foreign exchange system.

Work Permits/Visas

All foreign nationals in Jamaica are required to possess valid work permits. On the recommendation of the Free Zone Administration, work permits are granted speedily and applications are exempt from the tax charges. Visas are required for non-Commonwealth citizens only.
