Telecommunications

Modern telephone, facsimile and Internet facilities keep clients in touch with associates overseas. International direct dialing links subscribers to the United States, Canada, Europe and the Caribbean and there are operator connections to all major international cities.

The deregulation of the telecommunication industry in Jamaica in recent time has created the potential for substantial improvement in quality and cost competitiveness of service with the anticipated changes in the telecom landscape.

Within the Free Zones' environment, Jamaica Digiport International in the Montego Bay Free Zone provides a telecommunication infrastructure that features state of the art satellite earth stations with support technology to facilitate satellite links and digital switching to carrier networks in North America and Europe.

It offers a variety of High-Speed communication services via INTEL SAT and TEL STAR 6, C-Band satellite to North America and Europe and TIER 1 US carriers to North America, These services include:

  • Switched and leased Lines
  • Dial up telephony
  • High speed CTD circuits
Power Supply

The Zones are committed to supply 25 KVA'S to each factory / office unit. Any requirement above 25 KVA'S is the prospective user's responsibility.

Voltage Available

The primary supply is 25 KVA'S. This voltage is 'stepped down' to provide a secondary supply to factory units of voltage 110, 220 and 415. The frequency is 50 hertz. The power outlet points are the three-phase star delta system. All electricity power lines at the major Free Zones are above ground, while that at the Portmore Informatics Park is underground. The Zones provide lights mounted at roof / ceiling level for office and welfare facilities. However, it is the tenant's responsibility to provide internal lighting and fixtures suitable for the operation intended.

Water
The National Water Commission, which is responsible for supply throughout Jamaica, provides potable water by maintaining a complete service of filtration, purification and chlorine sterilization. Supplies to the Kingston Free Zone have a flow rate of 20 p.s.i. Or 1,000 gallons per minute. In the Montego Bay Free Zone, the flow ranges from 50 galls per minute to a maximum of 200 gallons per minute.
